<b>Overview:</b><br />
Happy Medium is a start-up childrens digital media company, so we need someone who can multi-task, and is a generalist in all fields of building and creating animated content.  Solid character animation / design is key, and it would be helpful if you have experience in compositing live action and animation, but not necessary.  Also, experience with apps would be a major plus.  A great eye for overall design is needed as well.<br />
<br />
This will be quickly evolving into a leadership position.<br />
<br />
<b>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</b><br />
-Work well in a highly collaborative environment with other animators, designers, and programmers, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and take direction well.<br />
-Successfully implement character animation assets using all the necessary tools including proprietary software.  Must also be a technically able developer.<br />
-Other duties may be assigned.<br />
<b><br />
Education/Experience:</b><br />
-Bachelors degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, covering all basic animation principles and techniques.<br />
-A proven ability to create great modeling and animation sequences.<br />
-Ability and desire to learn &amp; assist in building internal proprietary software.<br />
-A strong sense of composition, animation timing, and basic storytelling.<br />
-Be adaptable, flexible and accepting of change, often tossing out ideas and starting anew.<br />
-A current, updated reel showcasing your work.<br />
-Have Knowledge of cinematic language and camera terminology.<br />
<br />
Any knowledge or experience with building educational apps for kids is a big plus!<br />
<br />
<b> Other Skills:</b><br />
Advanced and demonstrated understanding of basic animation principles including squash and stretch, timing and motion, anticipation, staging, weight, and appeal. A fundamental understanding of, and desire to create animation content for kids.<br />

Developers will have the opportunities to advance and expand their skills by collaborating with senior staff, leading small projects and learning new technologies. <br />

Requirement Skills &amp; Experience:<br />
	Computer Science Engineering degree<br />
	Animation, visual effects or game industry experience a plus<br />
	Strong interest and experience in computer graphics and animation is required <br />
	Knowledge of CG technologies and applications (including Maya, OpenGL, Mental ray and/or Renderman) required<br />
	3+ years experience programming in C++ and Python <br />
	Software engineering knowledge, including UML, design patterns, unit-testing<br />
	Experience as a user and as a developer on Linux and Windows platforms <br />
	Knowledge of GUI tool-kits, especially wxPython, is a strong asset <br />
	Knowledge of network/web applications and RDBMSs is a plus<br />
	Strong communication and teamwork skills<br />

POSITION OVERVIEW<br />
The Production Engineer oversees the studio toolset and workflow relating to the back end of the production pipeline, specifically Lighting/Compositing, Surfacing, and FX.<br />
<br />
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
	Establish workflow, procedures and strategies across multiple disciplines, including Surfacing and Lighting/Compositing, to achieve the following:<br />
-	Maximize efficiency and productivity<br />
-	Maintain continuity within productions<br />
-	Meet quality, efficiency, and creative goals of all projects<br />
	Contribute to the design and development of the Surfacing, Lighting/Compositing, FX and rendering areas of the studios production pipeline<br />
	Collaborate with production management to establish methodologies and workflow to meet the requirements and goals of each production<br />
	Oversees the design, development, maintenance and optimization of lighting and rendering toolsets used by the Surfacing, FX, and Lighting/Compositing departments in collaboration with show leads and Pipeline and Software Development Supervisors<br />
	Establish clear methods for testing and quality control of all lighting/rendering tool development<br />
	Establish proactive assessments and audits of Surfacing, FX, and Lighting/Compositing workflow and toolset usage, being mindful of global technology directives as established by the Head of Technology and the Pipeline Supervisor<br />
	Work with all disciplines to develop best practices for the studios inter-departmental workflow<br />
	Provide leadership and expertise in the creation or purchase of 3rd party SW toolset<br />
	Collaborate with Department Heads and the Head of Operations to promote, develop and implement training programs to enhance skill-sets within the Surfacing and Lighting/Compositing departments<br />
	Acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge in relevant fields, proactively researching and investigating new technologies and methodologies<br />
<br />
REQUIRED SKILLS &amp; EXPERIENCE<br />
	At least 3+ years of CG experience (Feature Film experience preferred)<br />
	Completed post-secondary education classical or 3D animation, art fundamentals, or other relevant area of study<br />
	Good fundamental compositing skills<br />
	Experience with and proven working knowledge of the following:<br />
	Maya &amp; Mentalray (Fusion experience an asset but not required)<br />
	WxPython<br />
	Various scripting languages, including Python, Mel, and CShell<br />
	C/C++ or other object-oriented programming language<br />
	Subversion, CVS, or other revision control system<br />
	Experience designing user interfaces<br />
	Strong communication skills<br />
	Superior time-management and prioritization skills<br />
	Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision<br />
	Flexible and adaptable to change<br />

The Effects Artist creates effects for assigned shots using Maya and works with the Lead Effects Artist to ensure that all individually assigned Effects deliverables are completed fully and in line with the production schedule and the Directors overall vision.  This role attends Effects reviews for assigned sequences, troubleshoots and debugs shot problems and escalates technical issues as required, and maintains a convention of file naming structures for all shots that is compatible within Arc Productions pipeline.  The Effects Artist is required to remain current and up-to-date in effects techniques through industry research and training, and perform additional duties as required.<br />
<br />

	Must have extensive working experience with Maya. Candidates without this experience will not be considered.<br />
	Good working knowledge of Houdini and Real Flow<br />
	Experience with Maya particles/dynamics and particle expressions<br />
	Background in traditional art an asset<br />
	Basic understanding of animation styles and techniques and the animation production pipeline as a whole<br />
	Good creative and technical problem solving skills<br />
	Ability to learn quickly and comprehend custom in-house production tools<br />
	Ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and perform to standard in a fast-paced environment<br />
	Experience with Maya Fluids as well as some knowledge of the development and design of FX water<br />
	Working knowledge of any or all of the following a plus:<br />
