First it was SCOOBY-DOO, then ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, next the SMURFS, now Hollywood has turned once again to classic cartoons for its newest remake, HONG KONG PHOOEY. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alcon Entertainment and Rat Entertainment are making the 1970’s Hanna-Barbera cartoon into a, you guessed it, live-action/CG animation hybrid.
Alcon has gotten THE FAMILY GUY writer David Goodman to pen the new take on the dog-janitor turned kung-fu superhero. And it seems that Goodman is well versed in the art of retellings.
Goodman, an executive producer and writer on “The Family Guy,” worked on “Who is Killing the Great Chefs?” a remake of the 1978 movie “Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?” which is set up at Warner Bros. He is also adapting the web-comic “Last Blood.”
I wonder what will happen when Hollywood runs out of Saturday Morning cartoons to rehash.
