Its offical, the live action-animation hybrid film SMURFS has a director. AWN reports that Raja Gosnell is onboard with Columbia and Sony to bring this 80′s classic to the big screen. Gosnell is known for his other hybrid work BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA and both SCOOBY-DOO films. Jordan Kerner will be producing, and David Weiss and J. David Stem are writing the screenplay.
Kerner has been developing the project for seven years. He said, “With Raja coming aboard, we now have a brilliant director who has proven time and again that he has a deft touch in blending the worlds of physical comedy and honest emotion with both live action and photo-real animated characters. Our three-apple-high heroes are in good hands, and we feel absolutely positively Smurfy to be working with him.”
Maybe the movie will finally clear up one of the age old Smurf mysteries, was Gargamel going to eat the smurfs or use them to make gold?
