Many eyes were on the box office totals this weekend to see who would come out on top. Variety reports that the two big films over the holiday weekend, ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS and TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN tied for first spot. Both movies did quite well in theaters over the 4th, claiming $42.5 million each. Variety’s Pamela McClintock writes:
Yet the weekend was still up over the same domestic frame last year as there was something for everyone on the marquee. There had been concern that “Dawn of the Dinosaurs” and “Public Enemies” might get lost in the shadow of “Revenge of the Fallen,” but both came in on the upper end of expectations.
Gangster pic PUBLIC ENEMIES held its own at third with a worldwide gross of $46.2 million so far.
UPDATE: Transformers Squeaks out box office win with 42.3 Million.
