It seems like the SHREK idea of modernizing faerie-tales has rubbed off on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. AWN reports that MGM has just confirmed Mike Mitchell to direct their new live-action story ONCE UPON A TIME. In this action-adventure fantasy Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty have to embark on a perilous journey to save their husbands, the Charming brothers.
MGM’s decision was helped by the fact that Mitchell, just coming off the SHREK FOREVER AFTER animated feature by DreamWorks, is well saturated in faerie-tale movie form. ONCE UPON A TIME seems to take ideas from the famous musical INTO THE WOODS such as the Charming Princes being brothers, and the fact that there is life after “happily ever after.”
