Variety reports that Catherine Winder formerly from Lucas Animation has moved to Rainmaker Entertainment, an animation studio in Vancouver. Rainmaker wishes to join the ranks of heavy-hitters in the animation industry and Warren Franklin, CEO and president of Rainmaker, thinks Winder will be the jump-start the company needs.
Franklin said the hiring of Winder “changes our ability to do world-class animation, which is our goal.”
Rainmaker, which is publicly traded in Canada, is in production on its first animated feature, “Escape From Planet Earth,” for the Weinstein Co., and will begin production this summer on ”Luna,” an original short to be directed by Pixar alum Jon Mead.
The plan for the company is to push the animation into the Pixar cannon of storytelling first, Winder is quoted to say that the focus is “being storytellers on everything we do.” Rainmaker, along with Pixar Canada, is hiring and expects to get a good showing of Canadian animation talent.
