While most of America was in Super Bowl frenzy this weekend, the animation community held their annual Annie Awards ceremony at Royce Hall. This year Dreamworks swept the Annies collecting 17 awards out of 27 with their feature KUNG FU PANDA and SECRETS OF THE FURIOUS FIVE.
Pixar, which has been the leader this year in overall acclaim and awards with WALL-E and PRESTO, was completely shut out. Best Short went to Aardman’s WALLACE AND GROMIT: MATTER OF LOAF OR DEATH, and Best TV Commercial went to Duck Studios’ HEART for United Airlines. ROBOT CHICKEN was awarded Best Animated TV Production while AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER took home Best Animated TV Production for Children.
