John Boorman, director of ‘Beyond Rangoon’ and ‘Deliverance’, will make his debut in animation with ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’.  Boorman, along with Ron Mita and Jim McClain, have adapted L. Frank Baum’s original story for a CG feature is now in pre-production. AWN reports:

It will not be a musical, but will maintain the main characters and settings and will be voiced by English-speaking actors. 

Laurent Rodon and Claude Gorvsky at France’s Films Actions are producing with Boorman’s longtime associate Kieran Corrigan.

‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ is slated to release in 2010.
