Toon Disney signs off

In a network campaign to capture the attention of the tween boy market, the station Toon Disney is being revamped and renamed Disney XD.  Having spent the last couple of years catering mainly to the girls, Disney has decided to give the boys a channel of their own.  The new channel will offer shows such as “Batman: The Animated Series”, “Phineas and Ferb”, plus some new shows such as “Aaron Stone”.  The Los Angeles Times reports:

“As the rebranded Disney XD, the ad-supported cable network will boast original series, such as “Aaron Stone,” a live-action show about a video game virtuoso who leads a secret double life as a crime fighter. The show boils down to a male fantasy version of “Hannah Montana,” in which an ordinary teen leads a double life as a rock star.”

The decline of classic Disney animation on television has been happening for a while now.  From the start of “tweening” the Disney Channel, to Jetix, and now the complete segregation of Disney boy and Disney girl channels; I wonder if there will be anyplace to see the animation shorts that made Disney great.
