The Hollywood Report is reporting that The merger between Activision and Vivendi is expected to be approved in the next few days, creating the largest video game company in the world worth a total of $18.4 billion dollars. This would put them ahead of the current largest game company Electronic Arts, currently worth $14.1 billion.

This merger will create a company that not only has successful console games (Guitar Hero, Call of Duty) but also has a place in the emerging MMO Market (Vivendi’s World of Warcraft is the reigning champ of that arena) as well as the burgeoning Asian Market (where Vivendi’s Starcraft is aired on television as an E-Sport), two areas that Electronic Arts has not been successful in and Activision needs help with. Whether EA can reclaim it’s spot at number one or not, a new giant in the video game industry has been formed and it will change the way every game company conducts business.
